The main thing about the SST project is that it is a general purpose train simulator for research and educational use. It is based on a free platform and will be available for the public, both in binary and source code form. This means that it will be free to use for anyone, but it will take more of the user than the more game play oriented products like Trainz and MSTS. The SST platform will be adapted for Swedish conditions, but a lot of effort have been taken to make it customizable for the conditions of other countries as well as other contexts, like subways and trams. This customization will take some programming work as well as some 3D object creation though. Finally, there will be no support from the SST team, because our resources are on a very limited basis, but we hope user collaboration may be the solution there.
Eventually, there will be a presentation of the SST project available in English on our official homepage. Until our first release on june 30th we will keep most information in Swedish, though. But of course anyone who wants to translate the discussion here into English is free to do so.
