Inlandsbanan - Now at Beta
 

It has been a long 4 months but I'm happy to report that my Inlandsbanen route project from Gallivare to Arvidsjaur has now entered the beta testing stage. A few screenshots are shown below:

Activity creation and testing is now under way so I'm hoping at the latest the route will be released by the end of January, maybe a bit sooner.

Distribution will be via download from Trainsim.com, UK Trainsim and this site if Mats can handle the file size. It will also be available on my freeware "at cost" route compilation CD.

If anyone has timetables for the route for both the summer and winter service around 1981 - 82 and could scan or send details that would help get accurate passenger activities.

Y7 cab is excellent, the rear view comes in handy for shunting as I have created one activity where you need to fuel the Railcar then move into the platform at Arvidsjaur. I've added the Passenger Capacity entry to the eng file and increased the coupler strength to 9N so there won't be any breaks on the longer sections of single line when you meet a set of points.

Activity creation is not my strong point so I'll be setting up a few basic activities and hopefully those more skilled at that aspect can produce some more interesting scenarios. At Gallivare I have included the triangle layout so it would be possible to run from Arvidsjaur, back the train round the triangle (wye) and run back to Arvidsjaur again. A 10 hour activity!!

For my own personal use, I've aliased the sounds to the latest Class 158 sounds available from UK Trainsim. Not exact, but much better than listening to the Kiha and the 158 has a quite high pitch two tone horn which sounds quite Scandinavian too.

Wow, Vern! Think i have to reinstall Mts just so i can enjoy your route.
Fantastic work. I certainly reqonise the terrain, although its been many years since i travelled there last time. :)

I´ll be sure to follow the progress!

The route has now been released.

The files are currently awaiting approval at Train-sim.com and UK Trainsim I have also asked Mat if he can accept it to the file library on this site.

I have also added the route to my CD compilation which can be obtained via my web site. www.trainsim.org.uk/mtsroutes.html

It will be interesting to see what a "Hawked" version could look like. A similar exercise took place with my Blackpool tramway route which was lovingly enhanced and improved beyond all recognition by a couple of the people at UKTS.

Now having a short rest then tackling something closer to home - Cardiff to Rhymney to give the Class 37 diesels a blast!

Ja tycker Big Verns bilder ser jättefina ut, där behövs nog ingen ändring i rutten, jag har inte planerat att göra nått iaf.

The main archive is now available on Trainsim.com however I have had to upload a small patch as Route Riter appears to have deleted a couple of shape and texture files it shouldn't have. A patch has been uploaded to fix that but it may be a day or two before that is approved.

Forgot to add, if anyone has downloaded the route the patch is only about 600kb so I can email it if required pending upload approval. Just drop me a note at vern@nospamtrainsim.org.uk (remove nospam from the address) if you want it.

I have just tried your Inlandsbanan route, and I am very impressed by
the work you have done! It is a beautiful route and you must be a very
talented route builder!

My father lives in Arvidsjaur and I have been there many times, and when
I first saw your version of that station, I immediately recognized it as
Arvidsjaur station, because of the service tracks opposite the main building![:p]


When I was a young boy back in the eightys, I travelled the original route
many times both winter and summer, and I even got to drive the engine once,
thanks to a kind engineer! (It was an Y1 engine, which was "new" then.)

Last summer I saw a steam engine in Arvidsjaur, and apparently they still
run those tourist trains during the summer...

Keep the good work up, and i look forward to seeing how the route develops!

The route is more or less complete as I have issued it. However I am not ruling out a later extension. However at 271km it seems to be pushing the limits of what MSTS can cope with certainly in the Route Editor so it may have to wait for TMTS for the next stage.

OT: I wonder due to the above assertion (in red), where can I find information about the RE limitations during the development phase of a large route that might be able to cause problems in MSTS in a later stage? I have heard of many unexpected problems in the RE, but where can I find any information about such limitations of the RE? Is the above assertion only an experience or is it facts? Anyway, thanks for a great route Vern!

Largely experience. I found as the route became larger, the RE became more unstable with camera lock ups and send/don't send messages. To some extent it is probably system related - this route was developed on a laptop (albeit quite high specification) which probably copes less well with the graphics demands than a powerful desktop PC.

Has tested the route and i was impressed by the stunning fine artwork and the great scenery.

If it would be possible for someone to modify it, with swedish signals and swedish speedposts, the route would be even better...

But its a great job you have done, Vern...:)

After several weeks trying to download this route from Train-Sim I have succeeded. However, there are some problems when I´m starting the route. First of all, after running install.bat, there are 6 missing files not copied from some of the default routes, but it seems irrelevant to get the route functional. But I have one major problem, there is no ground textures and I can´t see any topography in the route, the landscape is totally flat. I´ve been running some of the default routes but there are no problems. What´s this?? [8]

Patchen är nerladdad och körd, likaså install.bat där det saknas 5 filer. Filerna som inte hittas från originalrutterna har svenskklingande ortsnamn associerad till rutten typ moskosel1.ace eller som slutar på "jaur". Men vad dom har i originalrutten från japan2 att göra ger bara ännu mer frågetecken?? Kan bara konstatera att originalrutterna fungerar perfekt, men när jag laddar ner inlandsbanan ja då svarar inte programmet (MSTS) mer!

Har kollat lite mer på mina problem med installationen. För det första så innehåller patchen de saknade filerna som inte hittas när man kör install.bat filen så där är allt ok nu.

Men det är nåt annat som förbryllar och det är filerna i Tiles katalogen. Där finns det 407 st filer med olika nummer med filtypen ".t" Sen finns det också lika många med filändelsen ".raw" kopplade till respektive T-fil med samma sifferkombinationer.

Har sen kollat hur detta ser ut i alla originalrutterna och dom har ytterligare tre och i enstaka fall en fjärde fil med filtypen ".raw" som i filnamnet slutar med "_e.raw", "_n.raw", "_y.raw" och några få "_f.raw"

Min fråga nu till nån som vet vad det här är för filer, varför saknas de flesta av RAW-filerna i Inlandsbane rutten när man installerat den? Har skapat början till en egen rutt och genererat alla T-filer och tillhörande RAW-filer utan problem. Har jag glömt installera nåt annat?

This is what´s happen when I´m starting the route. TrainSim doesn´t reply as soon as I have start it! Two days with unsolved questions and I´m still dead over this problem! Can´t solve it alone. Now, I want see somebodys structure of files for this route, if there are some files missing in my directory or whatever it is. My original routes are functional perfect and MSTS do the same.

Inlandsrutten fungerar utmärkt hos mig.
Angående tiles, så har den totalt 1629 raw-filer
och av den är 407 t-filer.

Jag har bara hälften av filantalet i min Tiles mapp och jag misstänkte att det skulle vara betydligt fler. Men från början när rutten är nerladdad så finns det bara 815 T-filer och RAW-filer tillsammans d.v.s lika många T-filer som RAW-filer förutom en extra RAW-fil där filnamnet slutar på "_f.raw". Verkar som resten av RAW-filerna skapas första gången rutten ska köras, eller vid nerladdning av Patchen? Kolla i din Tiles mapp, om inte det jag skrev ovan om T-filer och RAW-filer om det stämmer hos dig. Jag misstänker att det ska vara som i alla andra rutter att totala antalet filer ska vara 4*antalet T-filer, plus några där filnamnet slutar på "_f.raw". Om det stämmer så skiter sig mitt MSTS p.g.a detta att dom övriga RAW-filerna inte skapas. Kanske beror på för lite minne eller hårddiskutrymme (200MB kvar)?? Men originalrutterna fungerar fint!

Helst bör du ha runt 20% ledigt på disken.
Rensa bort allt du kan, gör sedan en diskfragmentering.

Hawk, det där programmet var kanonbra! Har skapat 600MB ytterligare space på hårddisken utan att behöva ta bort ett enda nyttoprogram, samt att jag fixat registerfilen som var totalt ostrukturerad. [^][:p]

Men tyvärr fungerar inte Inlandsbanerutten ändå, trots att jag nu har nästan 800MB ledigt. :(

Kan någon som har fått rutten att fungera, zippa Tiles mappen och skicka till mig? Den går att komprimera rätt så mkt så den borde kunna skickas på mail. Tack på förhand, nu avslutar jag denna tråd för det går inte att göra så mkt mer nu än detta. Tack för all hjälp.

Var hittar man den? Jag letade under "Downloads >> 6 MS Trainsimulator - Övrigt >> Rutter" och hittade fem olika rutter, dock inte denna.
